Auditions can often feel like a tense and competitive space. We’ve all experienced the energy of competing against others, hoping for our moment to shine. But my first audition experience with Rev Lat was an entirely different atmosphere—one of collaboration, celebration, and cultural pride. It was a refreshing reminder that auditions don’t have to feel like a race, but rather an opportunity to come together, learn, and grow.
We began the audition by introducing ourselves and sharing which place we were representing. I was genuinely surprised by the diversity in the room. As someone who studied in a predominantly white institution (PWI), being in an audition surrounded by people from all walks of life, with similar goals and dreams, was inspiring. For the first time in my nine years living in the U.S., I wasn’t the only Brazilian in the room. That alone made me feel more comfortable, more seen. It was the first time I didn’t feel the pressure to shape myself into a mold of what I thought they were looking for. In that moment, I realized that I didn’t have to hide my roots—I could proudly bring my loud and unapologetic Latina self to the table. The Rev Lat team created a space where we were encouraged to show up as our full, authentic selves, which was incredibly freeing.
One of the most profound aspects of this audition was the team’s emphasis on treating the audition like a workshop. They encouraged us to explore, take risks, and push past our perceived limitations. The dance call was nothing short of a celebration—a dance party. When we were split into smaller groups, each group was met with applause and cheers as we performed the combo. The supportive energy in the room was unlike any other audition I’ve ever experienced. It wasn’t about perfection, it was about coming together and creating something special as a collective.
Building an ensemble was one of the primary goals of this audition, and it was evident throughout the entire process. From acting to singing to dancing, we collaborated in every way to create a unified voice, a unified body. It was a reminder that the power of performance lies not just in individual talent, but in how we lift each other up and work together. This sense of community extended far beyond the audition. It felt like we were part of something bigger—a movement that celebrates Latin culture and the richness of our stories.
My expectation coming into this audition was to connect with others and bring my full self to the table as a Brazilian artist. I left that room feeling more inspired than I could have imagined.
This was by far the most gratifying audition I have ever had. The team was welcoming, the organization was top-notch, and the material we worked with was exceptional. It not only challenged us but also inspired us to embrace and showcase our Latinidad in all its forms.
If every audition room could replicate the energy and inclusivity of Rev Lat, the entire business would thrive. The way they fostered community, encouraged authenticity, and celebrated each person’s unique cultural background was a blueprint for how auditions should be. It wasn’t just an audition, it was a reminder that we, as artists, have the power to make change in this industry. This experience has motivated me to approach every future opportunity with the drive and passion of my people—fearless, authentic, and ready to make a difference. I’m excited for what’s to come, knowing that with every audition, I have the opportunity to not only showcase my talents but to help reshape the industry for the better.
