R.Evolución Latina, wow, simply wow! What a wonderful way to start your week—auditioning in a room full of people with big dreams just like yours, here in the big city.
Two weeks ago, I woke up feeling excited and, I’m not gonna lie, a little bit nervous… but also full of this feeling of conquering the world. All I could repeat inside my head was, “Today is gonna be the day,” and you know what? IT WAS!
Let me give you a little context. Hey everybody, I’m Lautaro… but please, call me Lauti. I’m from Buenos Aires, Argentina—the city of Tango, Mate, Asado, and our crazy passion for Fútbol. I have lived through art since I was four years old, when I saw my mom performing in a dance show. Since then, dancing became my one true passion. When I was ten, I discovered Musical Theatre, and from that moment on, there was no turning back. I’m in love with the arts.
I first met Luis Salgado and R.Evolución Latina in 2020, when I came to study in a workshop organized by an Argentinian company (Covershow). And there he was… with all his passion and devotion, teaching and showing us how to truly dare to go beyond. Studying with the artists and professors from RL was a real journey. It was inspiring to see how every single one of them was focused on planting a seed not only in our artistic and creative process but also within our hearts.
It was my 18th birthday when Luis invited me to join the 2020 “Dare to Go Beyond” workshop. After I repeated over and over again the text, “Soy una chispa que salió del fuego eterno…” he kindly extended an invitation that changed my path. BUT then life happened. The world faced something that forced everyone to stay at home—yeah, COVID and quarantine. Sadly, my plans to come to NYC and join RL were postponed for almost five years.
Thank God, life and the arts always offer a second chance. And here I am, living in NYC, chasing my dreams, with the best partner I could ever ask for (my girlfriend Ori), writing a blog for none other than R.Evolución Latina, and counting the days until the program begins.
Well, enough about me. That introduction was longer than I expected! Let me tell you about the audition process.
The first audition was on Monday, and the room was filled with excitement and nervous energy all at once. We started with the singing portion, and it was simply magical. To the rhythm of the talented pianist James, we chanted “Ori Ora” in a way that felt like we had been working together for months. It felt so good, so powerful, that for a moment, you forgot you were auditioning for a project. We just let go and enjoyed the present.
After that, we jumped into the dance combination taught by Luis and Matt, marking the steps for one of the original songs from the musical we will be working on in the workshop. Community was definitely there, embracing our Latinidad. It was incredibly motivating to see and hear how everyone was rooting for one another. It was something really unique. I mean, being a starving artist in NYC, after so many auditions, you start noticing that competition here is a real deal. Well, not in the hands of R.Evolución Latina. All of us were showcasing our strengths while having so much fun doing things we might not be used to.
We wrapped up with an acting exercise where we explored and expressed our mixed cultures, embracing our languages in unique ways—through words, distinct sounds, and movement. I’ve never been in such a fun audition before!
The callback was the next day, following a similar format but with a smaller group of people.
Honestly, people always say to “expect the unexpected” during auditions, but I had never felt that so accurately until now. What I learned from this experience? Just let go, trust, enjoy the process, and dare to go beyond!
Viva Argentina y que viva la Latinidad. See you in the next blog. XOXO
