Where to even begin? BWS 2024

It’s been quite a journey lately for all of us in the Beyond Workshop Series 2024 … Where to even begin? This first week has been an incredibly enriching journey, one that has resonated deeply within me. Picture this: singing, dancing, acting, engaging with new amazing material—all alongside such a vibrant community of artists who pour their hearts and souls into crafting a new musical dream. Thrilling, isn’t it? Participating in the creation of Barba is a privilege.

I feel so grateful to have Carlos teaching us body percussion with such patience and mercy. I am deeply touched by the fact that he is continuing Barba’s legacy, that he came up with this project years ago, and that I am part of the creative process of his and Kim’s piece of art. It is just such an honor. With his humanistic approach to art, Luis has encouraged us to explore technical intricacies of acting so we bring the proper layering, depth and meaning to every exercise. Following his leadership, we’ve created a sacred space where art, commitment and love intertwine seamlessly. The spirit of teamwork and the collective dedication to excellence it’s been nothing short of magical.

Now, let’s get real. While the core of this experience is undeniably romantic and emotionally fulfilling, we’re tackling some seriously complex material here. From the amazing score, to learning the challenging craft of body percussion, this process has been both arduous and demanding. And you know what? That’s what makes it exhilarating. Each day brings new challenges, pushing me to explore the depths of my artistry in ways I never thought possible. I find myself embracing the beauty of uncertainty… a space where every fiber of my being resonates in harmony. And oh, the joy of discovery! It’s messy, it’s beautiful, and it’s so rewarding. I feel the need to share the joy I’ve found in this journey with so many others. From reminiscing about Barba’s influence to celebrating the culmination of past experiences that led us here.

I’m grateful for this newfound sense of belonging within REvolución Latina. This journey it’s about us—our community, our familia. Together, we’re rewriting the rules, daring to be seen and heard. To all artists reading these lines, I urge you to embrace vulnerability—to let your voices ring out, your hearts be touched, and your souls laid bare. It’s in daring to risk failure that we truly come alive as artists. In those raw, unfiltered moments true magic happens. Keep creating, keep dreaming, and above all, keep daring to go beyond.
