2017 History
2017 was a busy year for R.Evolución Latina as we celebrated our 10th anniversary. Our theme Together Possibilities are Endless was put into action in Puerto Rico as we partnered with organizations and artists to empower communities that were devastated by the impact of Hurricane Maria. Making a difference through the arts is our mission at work.

Events and Collaborations
- We began our year with our annual contribution to SEA by making a donation of books to their Three King’s Day celebration.
- On January 19th, the eve of the presidential inauguration, RL joined the Broadway community in Times Square to create awareness through The Ghost Light Project. People joined together to “be a light” for challenging times ahead.
- Broadway Con – Broadway Sparks a Revolution of Evolution. On January 27th RL took part in the second BroadwayCon. Artists such as Doreen Montalvo stopped by the RL booth to add their “spark” to the wall. Guests for this year’s panel were Javier Gomez, Doreen Montalvo, Andy Señor, and our very own Luis Salgado.
- Videos A pool of incredible artists came together to be a part of our video series Faces of Broadway, where a group of talented Latino and Latina artists speak their truth about working on Broadway, how they made it to the great white way, and heartfelt stories of how their culture and upbringing has influenced their careers and who they are.
- D2GB School Arts Program Our D2GB School Arts Program could not be possible without the talent of our volunteers. On March 31, Zuleinette Ralat volunteered as a workshop facilitator for the NYC Lab School for Collaborative Studies’ program “Celebrating the World’s Majority” In collaboration with ASTEP, Maria Peyramaure volunteered to teach a clowning workshop to bring the magic of the arts to unaccompanied minors in the Bronx.
- Beyond Workshop Series Our focus this year was ensemble building and participants collaborated on creating art bringing their talents together on a three-week journey directed by RL founder Luis Salgado. Voices were heard, tears were shed and emotions ran wild as students from the US and Latin America came together to find themselves through the art of theater. We thank our wonderful team of teachers who continue to share their talent with our students.
- Dare 2 To Go Beyond Performing Arts Camp During the first week of August close to 200 campers were inspired by the power of music, acting, song, and dance. From Bomba to Hip Hop, campers were challenged to work together, find their voice, and create in an environment full of love. RL’s motto Dare to Go Beyond was present throughout the week. Artists from shows such as On Your Feet, Dirty Dancing, Hamilton and more once again lent their talents to make this camp a success.
Awards and Events
- Rise Up Miami Sandbox Sandbox is an annual gathering of talented and creative individuals who are using the arts, journalism, and technology to create social change. Founder/Director Luis Salgado was invited to lead a discussion on the role of arts in creating a social impact focusing on the importance of action. Attending leaders from nonprofits around the nation and Latin America experienced RL’s mission through Luis’ words and passion. This one-day event in Miami-brought to you by Rise Up, Univision’s social impact unit, included workshops, group conversations, panels, and workshops with the theme of Creative Disruption
- LULF award On September 19th, the La Unidad Latina Foundation (LULA) presented R.Evolución Latina with an award for the constant labor in bringing the arts to the Latino community. This began a collaboration between LULA and RL to help restore schools in the Island of Puerto Rico.
- RL Dance-A-Thon 2017 Our best DAT yet! RL raised 76K.. RL’s goal was to raise enough funds to bring relief efforts to our friends in the Caribbean and Mexico after the natural disasters. Our RL family in Peru held a simultaneous Dance-A-Thon to help with our fundraising, and in Mexico, artists organized a series of master classes to raise funds and join our campaign.
- RL and Beyond RL wrapped up the year doing what it does best, inspiring and empowering communities through the arts. Our directors Luis Salgado and Denisse Ambert set out on a trip to the Island of Puerto Rico to identify damage and lift the spirits of the people by bringing them music, dance, and the powerful inspiration that only the arts can bring. Local artists such as Trotamundos and Y No Habia Luz, joined forces and traveled to various communities to give the people a glimpse of hope and happiness. Thank you to everyone who donated to our fundraising campaign, and those who opened doors and helped identify communities in need. Our world is in much need of inspiration, and together, one artist at a time we can help heal the world.
