Doreen Montalvo 'Do It Anyway' Scholarship

In honor of beloved artist and RL community leader Doreen Montalvo, we are proud to once again offer the $1,000 ā€œDo It Anywayā€ Scholarship to support an individual dedicated to the arts, pursuing their dreams, and uplifting those around them.

Doreen’s story is one of courage, passion, and relentless perseverance. A little girl from the Bronx, rooted in her Puerto Rican culture and determined to make Broadway her home, she never stopped following her dreams. Through her mesmerizing voice, radiant light, and generous spirit, she touched countless lives.

A champion of R.Evolución Latina from day one, Doreen believed in the power of art to make a difference. For 12 years, she inspired young artists as a teacher at RL’s Children’s Performing Arts Camp, where her joy and dedication left an everlasting mark. She was always ready to share her talent, to mentor, and to lift others higher.

At 44, Doreen made her Broadway debut with the Original Broadway Company (OBC) of In The Heights. She later performed in the OBC of On Your Feet! and Mrs. Doubtfire, and appeared in TV shows like Law & Order, Madame Secretary, and The Good Wife. Her legacy also shines on the big screen in In The Heights and West Side Story.

This scholarship is more than financial support — it is a shared commitment between R.Evolución Latina and the recipient to dare to go beyond. The Selection Committee will consider not only accomplishments, but also character, leadership, and a deep desire to enrich both their own art and the lives of others through it.

✨ In Doreen’s spirit, we encourage you to ā€œDo It Anywayā€ — follow your dreams, inspire others, and never stop believing.
