BWS 2025 - THE LARGEST APPLICANT POOL IN THE HISTORY OF RL
A VERY SPECIAL YEAR
The 2025 Beyond Workshop Series in collaboration with the Raúl Juliá Training Unit Program brought together a diverse group of 50 artists, most of whom identify as Latino/Latine, including 11 international participants from Argentina, Mexico, Brazil, and Spain. With 102 applicants, this marked the largest applicant pool in the history of R.Evolución Latina. We were especially thrilled to return to the National Dance Institute in Harlem, welcoming a new community of artists to this magical space.
Through our unique musical theater program, directed by Luis Salgado, participants explored innovative ways to create new musical theater work.
Luis Salgado, Gabriela Garcia, Matthew Steffens, Daniel Gutierrez, Santiago Moyano, Leon Ingulsrud, Valeria Cossu, Rosalba Rolón, and Ian Hersey
DEVELOPING NEW MATERIAL
WHAT WAS DIFFERENT THIS YEAR?
This year, students were fully immersed in the creative development of Aguardiente: In Process, a new bilingual musical celebrating the vibrancy of Colombian and Puerto Rican rhythms and the soul of Latine artistry. Artists were challenged to explore their voices, movement, and musicality as tools for storytelling, discovering how every element contributed to bringing a new work to life. By participating directly in a musical in development, our teachers highlighted the importance of collaboration, discipline, focus, and creative risk-taking—skills essential for today’s entertainment industry.
WORDS FROM THE STUDENTS:
"This was by far the most gratifying audition I have ever had. The team was welcoming, the organization was top-notch, and the material we worked with was exceptional. It not only challenged us but also inspired us to embrace and showcase our Latinidad in all its forms” - Ester Teixeira Vianna
“I breathed a sigh of relief knowing that I was in a room with kind-hearted professionals. It’s so easy to get caught up in the cutthroat nature of show business and overlook all the wonderful people who want to uplift their community. They are real. It just takes putting yourself out there and having the courage to go looking for them.” - Carolina Mirada
“They actually cared about the work that goes into this. About artistry. About pushing forward the boundaries of what theater should be..” - Tyler Ayala-VanTassel
