The Beyond Workshop Series (BWS) is R.Evolución Latina’s interdisciplinary, international, immersion scholarship program that challenges artists to further develop the well-rounded technical skills, self-confidence and critical leadership skills required to unite our community.
Now a 2-week, in-depth workshop, the BWS 2013 will immerse recipients in the 3 main disciplines that are used in musical theater – Dance, Acting and Voice – at varying experience levels. Whether your focus is Dance, Acting, Voice, or all three, there will be a class for you. We believe each discipline contributes to and strengthens the other. And in the process of reaching across borders, this year’s BWS is also dedicated to a cultural exchange! RL has awarded scholarships to 20 students from Colombia and Peru to be a part of the BWS in NYC.
- Dance curriculum will include classes in ballet, jazz, theatre dance, Limon technique, and contemporary.
- Acting will delve into Shakespeare, scene work, and voice.
- Voice classes will offer training in song interpretation, ensemble work and voice exploration.
- Classes will occur in 2-hour blocks from 10am-4pm, Monday through Friday, for 2 weeks in March. Participants will be present for the whole day, rotating through classes.
- Our instructors are some of New York’s finest from Broadway, Film and TV. Some past teacher’s include Josh Bergasse, Marcos Santanta, Ian Hersey, Rickey Tripp, Rosie Lani Fiedelman, William Wade and many more.
We believe in empowering well-rounded, socially-conscious performers. In addition to technical training, participants will work with the instructors to discover and develop the leadership skills necessary to unite our community. Completion of the Beyond Workshop Series will be followed by the artist donating his or her time to RL as a part of the scholarship agreement. Commitment to the full 10am-4pm weekday schedule is required, as is the commitment to each artist’s growth and empowerment.

Since the Beyond Workshop Series I have had many great opportunities within the dance world and non-profit educational world. I believe that the Beyond Workshop Series helped me believe in myself more and although doubt is a struggle that I go through, this workshop gave me hope. In September, I was given the opportunity to co direct at one of our high school sites for Sports and Arts Foundation. his was my first collaboration that I directed with the support of my faculty, it was truly inspiring. Being able to bring 40 elementary students, 50 high school students and 30 staff together to create community through dance was so satisfying and I was reminded on how RL empowered me to do anything! Bianca Golden-BWS 2012
“I can only describe the BWS as an incredibly powerful experience! The developmental atmosphere that the talented team creates is like a nest; nurturing, warm and encouraging. Artists are empowered to fearlessly explore beyond their abilities; connecting with the deepest emotions and allowing expression, body and soul to become one. BWS gave me back the thirst to dream, the hunger to believe and the courage to challenge the limits set by a fearful mind. Thank You RL for Daring us to Go Beyond!” Luis Armando Benitez – BWS 2012
RL has helped me in every aspect of my life. As an actor, as person, as a family member. Everything I learned in the Shakespeare workshop and choir I can apply in my life. It has given me the courage to go beyond my wildest dreams. It has given me the tools and the confidence to pursue my acting. It has helped me to participate in our community and to give back to the community and in the end it has helped me be a better son and brother to my family. I can’t explain how it works but it works and I am proud to be a part of this amazing organization. –Tony Castellanos (Shakespeare and Choir)
Being part of BWS, I always have to pinch myself and realize how proud and privileged I am to be in a room full of talented, strong Latino artists who share the same vision and the same hopes for our community! The BWS Series is about commitment, hard work, taking risks…apply those and you’ll definitely grow! –Israel Gutierrez (Dance and Shakespeare)
BWS is a wonderful experience that enabled everyone to sharpen their skills in their vocal craft. William Wade was one of a kind! He really focused on the growth and empowerment of all the participants. –Natalia Arias (Choir)
The energy in the room during BWS is beautiful. Everyone pushes each other, cheers each other on, applauds when we see a breakthrough. The community is extraordinarily loving and supportive. It’s amazing to see how you can grow and how you help others grow as well and how those two things fuel each other. A year later, I still have quotes saved in my phone from my friends at BWS. Cannot wait for the next year! –Jewel Elizabeth, actress, dancer & VO artist (Dance)
