Shakespeare, Music & Dance
Beyond Workshop Series (BWS) Program and the Raul Julia Training Unit are back in 2021, in a New and Daring Way!
In 2020, at the start of the pandemic, we moved our classes to an online platform. Now in 2021, we will explore new and daring ways to improve our training and create stronger bonds with our students and teaching artists.
The BWS is a one-of-a-kind interdisciplinary (acting, dance, music) training program. This performing arts training workshop at the pre-professional level is imparted by seasoned theater professionals with Broadway, Off-Broadway, Off-Off Broadway, film and television credits. Participants will have the opportunity to work virtually and in-person in 3 divided sessions.
Session #1 (virtually only) of the program will be for a select group of participants who will delve deeper into Shakespeare’s text through the story of TITUS ANDRONICUS. Participants and creative teams will explore the life of this piece in the realities of today’s society by holding up a mirror to the issues of today.
Session #2 (virtually only) of this training will include dance classes in various styles including ballet, hip hop, musical theatre, Latin Fusion, modern, jazz, and others. It is designed to challenge and advance the performer’s craft even while working from home.
Session #3 (in-person with safety protocols) is a new project for R.Evolución Latina. Some of the participants selected to be part of the BWS 2021 will have the opportunity to be part of a film developed by our creative team and supported by the Puerto Rican Traveling Theater and the Raul Julia Training Unit.
We welcome participants from the five boroughs of New York City, from other states in the U.S., and from other countries around the world. We seek artists that are dedicated to giving back through their art. Artists of all disciplines and ethnicities are encouraged to apply. We believe opportunities like these build a stronger community.
We are excited and proud to partner, for the fourth year with Pregones/PRTT and The Raul Julia Training Unit. This collaboration is inspired by the legacy of artists like Raul Julia and Myriam Colón leaders that went beyond and represented our community with pride.
