Dance-A-Thon 2016

A Timeless Dance Experience!

2016 Dance-A-Thon breaks goal and raises over $50K, more than any past fundraising event.

The 4th annual Dance-A-Thon took place at a new venue, SLATE NYC on Saturday October 22nd. After 6 weeks of online fundraising 54 fundraisers and 200 attendees hit the floor as they completed their commitment to dance for 5 hours. Online contributions continued through the day as artists, RL campers and community members came together to celebrate music and dance from the past 6 decades starting with the 1950s.

This year our friends from the Broadway community, Courtney Reed (Aladdin) Rosie Fiedelman (The Lion King) Rickey Tripp (Hamilton), Roddy Kennedy (Hamilton) and On Your Feet, The Story of Emilio and Gloria Estefan cast members Ektor Rivera, Andrea Burns, Brett Sturgis, Alexandra Suarez, Adriel Flete, and Eduardo Hernandez joined us to warm up the floor at the start of the event before heading to their matinees.

This decade hopping event was lead by Founder Luis Salgado and dance styles from the 50s, 60s, 70s to today were lead by Maria Torres, Dionne Figgins, Matthew Steffens, Ehizoje Azeke, Myriam Gadri and Carol Schuberg. DJ Franklin Ayala was at the helm of the turntables as we moved to our favorite hits from the past and present.

Broadway choreographer and long time supporter Sergio Trujillo was the top fundraiser this year raising over 10k to support the organization. This year top Fundraisers were Luna Garcia, Lea Kalisch, Jarvy O’Neill and Hudson Flynn, who also received special recognition for using the arts to fundraise.

Proceeds from this event will go towards RL programs like the Children’s’ Performing Arts camp,Kids Beyond Broadway, Beyond Workshop Series, the adult education program and new plans for their 10th year in 2017. This year a portion of monies raised will be assigned as grants to young artists to develop and expand their work and potential projects.

Thank you to all our donors and supporters who helped us go beyond our goal and believe in the power of art.
